WHS Principal Addresses Reports of Acting Inappropriately in Front of Students

Peter Renwick was allegedly acting inappropriately at two student events in November, according to parents.

A few parents and concerned residents have revealed that Westfield High School Principal, Peter Renwick, was acting odd and inappropriate at two events in front of students on Nov. 22.

A letter to the editor was also published in The Westfield Leader on Thursday stating that Renwick’s behavior was inappropriate. The writer referenced a YouTube video of Renwick’s performance on Nov. 22 at a student coffeehouse event where he was supposedly “rambling incoherently,” bullying students and also threatened to terminate a teacher.

The video was taken down from YouTube.

Renwick was also speaking incoherently at a gymnastics banquet that same evening, a resident said.

Residents who tried to contact Renwick following the event said he was absence from school for an unknown number of days. However, a spokesperson for the district said he was not suspended.

In an emailed letter addressed to faculty and parents and sent to Patch, Renwick addressed his behavior.

“… you should know that a recent public comment about me at an evening Folio Coffeehouse was puzzling. While I did perform at Folio, I had no inention but to entertain our students. Trust me when I tell you that I realize my future is not in comedy and my performances at Folio will be more reserved in the future." Renwick said.

He went on to say, “please be assured that I am here at Westfield High School and have been for the entire school year, with the exception of professional conferences/meetings, school vacations or family illness.  Unfortunately, for several days in November leading into December, two of my family members were afflicted with consecutive medical situations and I was out of school for that time period to ensure that proper care was provided for both of them. I thank you for your concern during that time and I am pleased to report that they are both recovering.”

Superintendent Margaret Dolan was not available for comment at the time of publication.
