WHS Marching Band Holds Car Wash Fundraiser Thursday

The band hopes to defray the cost of its upcoming trip to US Bands National Championships in November.

Members of the Marching Band will be holding a Car Wash Fundraiser at  from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, weather permitting.

The band is already hard at work with daily rehearsals preparing for the 2012 season, but will be taking a break from music and marching on Thursday afternoon to fundraise for the upcoming trip to the National Championships in Annapolis on Saturday, November 10. The WHS Marching Band will compete against approximately 30 high schools from across the country at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

The band has held several car washes over the last few summers that received huge responses from the community. That support meant a lot to the students and it would be great to see a big turnout again, noted band parent Betsy Marino.

Other upcoming fundraisers include the first annual Shako Day, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 8. Donation centers will be set up in 24 locations throughout Westfield so that the community can offer its support. The band members, broken into two shifts—9 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.—will be easy to spot in either their WHSMB t-shirts and khakis, or full-out uniforms and Shako hats. A rain date is set for Saturday, Sept. 15.

Restaurant Give Back Nights will be offered throughout August, September and October, and a mum sale will take place on Sept. 29. Pre-orders can be arranged ahead of the sale date.
