Westfield Teachers Ready for School Year

Teachers and support staff in the Westfield Public School district all attended an In-Service on August 30 to further prepare them for the new school year.  

Technology sessions were designed to support the implementation of the recent investment in district-wide wireless capacity as well as the many iPad and laptop carts that were deployed over the summer.

A new “paperless” endeavor, created to streamline Individualized Educational Programs (IEP) for special education students, was introduced to child study team staff throughout the district. In class support teachers worked on team-teaching strategies. 

Westfield’s health services staff became re-certified in CPR and learned more about the district’s data software program. 

Social Studies staff as well as the Fine and Performing Arts teachers explored 2012 common assessments. 

New curricula revisions in grades K-5 Language Arts, 6 – 8 Math and 6 – 8 Science were supported by hands-on workshops that employed research-based approaches and new resources to provide those teachers with the tools to implement the new standards. 

Paul Pineiro, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, stated,“This was a great in-service day for our staff.”  Added Superintendent of Schools, Margaret Dolan, “There was excitement and energy in every room that I visited.  We are off to an excellent start of the new school year.”
