Boys Swimming

The WHS Boys swim team took back the Union County Championship Crown from Scotch Plains-Fanwood, beating SPF (2nd place) 435 to 424.  This marked their 54th championship in the event's 56 year history.  Westfield’s 400 freestyle relay (Luke McGrory, John Lindros, Brennan Haley & Matt Daniel) broke the Union County Championship meet record.   Contributing members of the team were Aram Barmakian, Alex Bond,Nick Constantine, Matt Daniel, Brennan Haley, Stephen Husch, Tyler Lessner, John Lindros, Luke McGrory, Connor Moore, Dan Myers, Kevin Oster, Tom Pyle, Max Shin, Matt Trinkle.

Girls Swimming

The WHS Girls #1 state ranked swim team won its 20th Union County Championship title.  Their score of 452 points put a huge 193 point gap between WHS and Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s 2nd place points of 259.  Caroline Baldwin set 2 new Union County Championship records in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke.  WHS Relay Teams set 2 new Union County Championship records in the 200 Freestyle Relay (Loren Ball, Ellie Reinhardt, Sarah Cronin, Caroline Baldwin) and 400 Freestyle Relay (Loren Ball, Ellie Reinhardt, Sarah Cronin, Caroline Baldwin).  Contributing members of the team were Loren Ball, Caroline Baldwin, Audrey Bangs, Kathleen Bond, Jessica Cronin, Sarah Cronin, Erika Daniel, Courtney Day, Courtney Han, Allie McBrearty, Maeve Maloney, Meghan Myers, Ellie Reinhardt, Lauren Schmeider, Amy West, Becky Zhang.

 

Will face No. 2 Immaculate Heart Academy on Tuesday in a battle for the top spot in the entire state.

Hockey

Westfield 10, Governor Livingston 0: Sophomore Dane Huber recorded a hat trick for the streaking Blue Devils in the blowout win over GL. For more:

Westfield 2, Robbinsville 1: The Blue Devils earned a tough win over a strong Robbinsville squad. Junior Ryan Morse scored the game winner in the third period. For more:

 

Boys Basketball

Rahway 56, Westfield 50 (2 OT): Fell to host Rahway in the finals of the Butch Kowal Tournament, their second tightly contested loss of the season to their Union County rival. Keegan Hess scored 16 points in the loss.

Westfield 56, Holmdel 47: Westfield used a 22-11 run in the 4th quarter to pull away from Holmdel to set up their second game against Rahway early in the season. Sophomore Mike Androconis had 17 points and eight rebounds.  Nate Mitchell scored 15 including four three pointers.  Ozan Yucetepe added 13. 

Girls Basketball

Westfield 58, Plainfield 48: Lillian Scott scored 25 points for the Blue Devils including 10 from the free throw line. Jacqueline Knapp had 19 points and 5 rebounds. Carolyn Maguire totaled 8 rebounds.

Westfield 45, North Plainfield 32: Lillian Scott recorded 20 points in the double digit victory over North Plainfield.

Westfield 31, East Brunswick 15: Carly Friedman filled up the stat sheet in the win over East Brunswick with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and two steals.

Wrestling

-Set a school record for wins with its 17th victory of the season when they defeated Carteret 57-15.
