Westfield Counselor Frank Uveges Awarded Philhower Fellowship

Frank Uveges will be presented with the award as the guest of honor at the Rotary Club luncheon on May 1

The following is a press release from the Westfield School District:

Frank Uveges, elementary counselor at and Schools in Westfield, is the 2012 recipient of the Westfield Rotary Club’s Philhower Fellowship in recognition of outstanding teaching at the elementary school level.

He will be presented with the award as the guest of honor at the Rotary Club luncheon on May 1. That evening, he will be presented with a resolution from the at a reception at Wilson School at 7:30 p.m. prior to the Board of Education meeting, both held in the school’s auditorium.

Mr. Uveges joined the Westfield Public Schools in 1998, and has served as Student Support Counselor at Wilson and Tamaques Schools. Beginning this year, he has the added responsibility as the Anti-Bullying Specialist at Wilson School.

A graduate of Rowan University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, hereceived a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology and a Professional Diploma in School Psychology from Kean University.

In a nomination received on his behalf, Mr. Uveges was called “a remarkable listener . . . with an innate ability to form a perfect read on each child and understand what makes them tick.”

A parent of elementary students stated, “He has the wonderful ability to quickly find the root of the problem and come up with several explanations and solutions. Without a doubt, he is in the profession that he is best suited for and our children are fortunate for that.”

Upon receiving notification of the Philhower Fellowship, Mr. Uveges stated, “It is truly an honor to receive the Philhower Fellowship Award and a privilege to be part of such a supportive community where education is so highly valued.  Working with the children of Westfield and sharing in their growth and development throughout their elementary school experience is both rewarding and inspiring.”

Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dolan congratulated Frank Uveges for becoming the 20th recipient of the Philhower Fellowship. She also thanked the Rotary for “its recognition of this meaningful profession.”

The Philhower Fellowship was established in 1993 by the Rotary Club to honor former Westfield Educator and Rotarian Charles Philhower and to recognize the importance of teaching in the elementary grades.
