"The participation of our children teaches and reinforces the idea of volunteerism for children at a young age," Pinto said. "It is this spirit of giving that supports the philosopy of Westfield Co-op. We are very proud of our students and their parents who are always so willing to help. Throughout the year we have many opportunities to participate in projects to help the community.

"In addition to the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon, we also have an annual toy drive for Elizabeth Coalition for the Homeless, do soldier letters, and have clothing and book collections for organizations in need."

The preschoolers at the Co-op have fun on their trikes while raising funds for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. In addition, the event gives the community an opportunity to reinforce safety rules which they learn from Bikewell Bear® and Pedals the Bunny® through educational materials provided by St. Jude.
