Westfield Board of Ed Notebook

Poetry contest, Rock 4 Schools, and Origami Exhibit announced at meeting.

The following were announced at Tuesday's meeting of the Westfield Board of Education:

  • The Woman's Club of Westfield invites all aspiring student poets and authors authors from kindergarten through high school to enter its 2013 Youth Poetry and Short Story Contest. Deadline for submission is Wednesday, Jan. 30 and must be the orginal unpublished work of the author, written during the contest year. For more information, please email wcw@westfieldnj.com
  • The Education Fund of Westfield is hosting "Rock 4 Schools" on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Crossroads in Garwood. The evening will include music and refreshments. Proceeds will benefit the grant program established for teachers to enhance classroom learning in the Westfield Public Schools. For more information, visit www.westfieldnj.com/efund
  • The 2012 Origami by Children Exhibit is being displayed at the Westfield Memorial Library through the end of January. A traveling exhibit, this year it feautures two Westfield Public School students, Mark Gillespie, a high school junior, and Fiona Gillespie, a seventh grader at Edison Intermediate School.
