Westfield 8th Grade Students Learn CPR

Westfield High School senior, Caitlyn Tierney, taught RIS students CPR.

Eighth grade students at Roosevelt Intermediate School learned CPR from Westfield High School senior, Caitlyn Tierney.

Tierney, a former lifeguard who is certified in CPR/First Aid, returned to Roosevelt to teach current students CPR in all of the 8th grade health classes.

“It was a great experience for all and she did an amazing job," Sharon Dorry, Roosevelt’s Nurse/Health Educator, stated. "The students really enjoyed it and have a new appreciation and knowledge of this valuable skill.”

Students were able to use the skills they learned on a mannequin following the presentation. Tierney's lessons are part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project, which she is hoping will empower teenagers to make a different in the face of an emergency.
