Watch Westfield Students Spring Into Technology

The public will have the opportunity to view examples of how technology is woven into the curriculum in the Westfield Public Schools beginning March 18. 

The first week of spring is being dubbed “Spring into Technology Week in Westfield."  Short videos of students using technology in the classrooms will be posted on the district’s website at www.westfieldnjk12.org/video and aired on WHS-TV36 beginning March 18 for several weeks. 

The TV schedule is:  Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.; and Sundays at 2 p.m. Also, during the “Spring into Technology Week,” PTOs will be conducting fundraising which will be targeted to help upgrade technology in . 

“We continue to focus on technology for the entire district as part of our Strategic Plan and we thank our principals, teachers, students, parents, and TV36 for helping us celebrate and update our schools for the 21st century,” stated Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Margaret Dolan.

The Ad Hoc Technology Committee of the  has met at least once a week for six months to lay the groundwork for an initiative that will change the district’s approach to education for years to come.

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the BOE introduced the Strategic Technology Initiative, which begins with the installation of a district-wide wireless network in the next three months, and largely focuses on expanding the use of and importance placed on modern technology within the curriculum. 

“While we recognize that technology is not absent from our students’ school experiences, we can – in fact, we need – to do more,” committee chair Mitch Slater told Board meeting attendees. “We need to do more so these 21st century learning opportunities are experienced consistently by all students, across grade levels, disciplines and schools.
