Washington School Show Band Performing Friday Night

Band to perform classic rock at the Crossroads at 9 p.m.

Attention , you won’t have to wait until January for your fix in the beloved Westfield tradition.

Friday night at 9 p.m., six members of the show’s band will be performing an hour long set of classic rock covers at the Crossroads on North Avenue in Garwood. The performance is being billed as a mini-show from the school show to benefit the school’s PTO.

Brad Schaffer, the group’s guitarist said the idea came when the band started discussing the fact that they only play together once a year.

"We all looked at each other after the show was over last year and wondered why we should only play together once a year considering how much we love the music and the fun we have,” he said. “So one thing led to another, an email here, a successful practice there, and now here we are. And we figured if we can also raise money for the school in the process, why not?"

Schaffer said the group is looking at the possibility of doing another longer concert in the fall to benefit the Washington PTO or another local charity. The Show is the PTO’s biggest fundraiser and the biggest school performance in town. With a cast made up of parents, the show started at Grant School 60 years ago and contains skits based on themes and the school, along with annual traditions including the men’s dance and the teacher’s number.
