School Board Changes Food Vendors

A contract for the new school year was approved at Tuesday night's meeting.

The Hoboken Board of Education unanimously approved a new food vendor for the 2012-2013 school year. 

Sodexo Management Inc., will be catering the school meals, instead of former vendor

The contract is for about $125,000 a year, or $12,510.90 administrative costs per month. 

The prices for student lunches will remain the same, at $3 at the elementary schools and $3.50 at the high school with the adult lunch price at $4. The district will also continue to offer the universal breakfast program to all students at no cost.

Great. My company had Sodexo as its vendor for about two years and they just terminated them in favor of another company because there were too many complaints about the food and their health inspection grade was not very good. I was not a fan of Chartwells but I don't think they are going to improve the situation with this choice.

Maybe the BOE should spend the next few weeks at the high school for breakfast and lunch. They can eat exactly what the kids are served for both meals. Sit with the kids and see what they are eating. Look at how it is served. Are the kids eating it or throwing it away? Would you serve it to your own kids at home? Would you eat it for lunch everyday? Then the BOE should pick a company to feed our kids.
