Roosevelt School Hosts Veterans Day Assembly Monday, Nov. 19

The Heroes Among Us award will be presented to Patrick Boyer.

Roosevelt Intermediate School, located 301 Clark St., is holding a Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, November 19, beginning at 8:20 a.m. Among the celebrations will be the presentation of The Heroes Among Us award to Patrick Boyer.

Boyer grew up in Westport, Conn. and graduated from Staples High School in 1986. While at Staples he was the captain of the wrestling team and the 1986 185lb state champion. He graduated from West Point in May 1990 with a Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army’s Aviation Branch. 

He was stationed at Fort Rucker Alabama where he attended the Aviation Officer Basic Course and Initial Entry Rotary Wing Flight Training (Flight School) ultimately graduating in July 1991 as a UH-60 Blackhawk Pilot. Following flight school he spent a total of 10 years on active duty. Duty stations included Ft. Campbell Kentucky, Katterbach Army Airfield outside of Ansbach Germany, Ft Rucker for a second time and final assignment as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at Fordham University.

While in service he was deployed around the world including assignments in Jamaica, Haiti, Somalia and Bosnia. He held positions as a platoon leader, flight operations officer, company executive officer, battalion supply officer, brigade plans officer, brigade adjutant and company commander. 

In June 2000, he left active duty to pursue a graduate degree graduating from the Fordham Graduate School of Business in the spring of 2001.
