Renwick to Bring Back Principal's Address at Back-to-School Night

WHS principal to deliver speech to parents on Sept. 24.

Westfield High School Principal Peter Renwick will be bringing back the annual tradition of a principal's address during the annual Back-to-School Night on Sept. 24.

The annual address had been absent from the annual parent's evening for three years, with Renwick's predecessor preferring to not make the speech. Last year, Renwick's first at the helm of WHS, he chose to host a "meet-and-greet" in the library in order to meet parents in an informal setting. This year he wants to give a more formal presentation.

"It is an important way to communicate information to parents and to start off the evening," he said.

Back-to-School Night, an annual event where parents have a chance to meet teachers and roam the halls of WHS, will kick off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 24 with Renwick's address. Following his speech, which Renwick said will end by 7:30, parents will go through the daily schedule to hear presentations in each classroom. Student volunteers will be on hand to assist parents.

In his address, Renwick is planing a small scale WHS version of the president's State of the Union Address. He said that he will talk about the high school's achievements in the past school year and lay out his vision of the school for the coming year.

"I will provide updates on the new administrative positions that have been added and set a tone for the school year," Renwick said of his speech. "I will also celebrate last year as well."
