No. 1 Westfield Hands IHA First Loss Since '07; Boys Roll Against Cranford

The Westfield girls swim team handed Immaculate Heart Academy its first loss since 2007.

Until yesterday's match up with the Westfield High School girls swim team, Immaculate Heart Academy had not tasted defeat since the 2007 Non-Public A championship, a streak that had spanned nearly five full years. 

Westfield's boys rolled against Cranford's co-ed team 115-55. Despite the large deficit, the Cougars were able to take first in several of the meet's events.

The was filled with students, parents and fans who were delighted by both teams in the girls meet as they traded leads throughout a meet that featured several thrilling finishes. Westfield was able to tie the meet at 62 with three races remaining with a win in the 200-Freestyle relay.

Both Sarah Cronin and Caroline Baldwin took first in two individual and two relay races. Baldwin's relay team took first in the meet-ending 400-Freestyle relay securing number-one Westfield's victory over the four-time defending Non-Public A state champion. The win over the state's number two team solidified their place as New Jersey's best headed into the state tournament
