MORE After School Prepares for Showcase in June

Learn about the work of various non-profit organizations.

Students from McKinley Elementary School who have participated in the MORE After School program are preparing to share their work. The free showcase will be open to the public at the Westfield Community Center, 558 West Broad Street, on Saturday, June 8 from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.

MORE, a non-profit organization, was founded by parents Melissa Colten and Devorah Wolf. MORE’s multi-generational teachers and mentors are dedicated to providing children with meaningful, hands-on classes that enhance academic and artistic skills in various areas, and to instill a love of learning.

MORE offers courses throughout the school year in collaboration with other local non-profits such as the Westfield Art Association and NJ Workshop for the Arts. Classes have included: Gardening, Chemistry of Cooking, Digital Photography, Computer Animation, Writing Games and Journalism, Music Composition, Keyboard, Drama, Acrylic Painting, Origami, Yoga, All About Flight and Parent Partners Music.

At the showcase students and anyone from the neighborhood who would like to join in can also participate in gardening and painting on-site beautification of the community center in an effort to welcome its new executive leader, Stephanie Smith, to Westfield.

Colten stated, “We want as many people [at the showcase] as possible to learn about MORE, the Westfield Community Center, and the valuable work of other Westfield nonprofit organizations.”
