McKinley School Centennial Saturday

First Street school to celebrate 100 years with parade and party.

McKinley Elementary School will mark its 100th birthday with a parade and party on Saturday morning.

The festivities will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with a parade starting at Kehler Stadium. The parade will then proceed down Rahway Avenue to First Street and the school, which was named after the nation's 25th president, who was assassinated during the 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, NY.

Following the parade will be a celebration in the school's backyard. This will include presentations by several area dignitaries, including U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance, R-Hunterdon County. During the celebration, Claudia Andreski, the school's principal, will honor her predecessors.

Tours of the school, led by faculty and staff, will finish off the celebration which is expected to attract several hundred students, residents and McKinley alumni. A birthday cake is expected to be served to those in attendance.
