Lincoln School to Close Monday and Tuesday Because of 'Flu Like Illness'

Board of Education stresses no cases of H1N1 swine flu confirmed in the schools.

Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dolan is closing the Early Childhood Learning Center at Lincoln School on Monday and Tuesday because of an increase in flu like symptoms amongst a group of students at the school. A review of absence data at the school showing a spike in one class led to the decision.

"Although there have not been any confirmed cases of the H1N1 Swine Influenza in our schools there have been some cases of flu-like illness," said a letter to parents posted on the district website. "Specifically, there is a cluster of students in one class in Lincoln School."

The letter said the health department recommended closing Lincoln on Monday and Tuesday because of the percentage of sick students in one class and the young age of the children involved. During the time the school is closed, district custodians will be cleaning Lincoln School. The school will reopen on Wednesday.

Dolan and district staff have reviewed absence data for other schools and do not see a need to close any other school.
