Letter to the Editor: Tamaques Parent Asks BOE to Support Kravetsky

Editor's Note: This letter was originally sent to Schools Superintendent Margaret Dolan and members of the Westfield Board of Education.

Dear Dr. Dolan and Members of the Westfield Board of Education;

My name is Danielle Bracco; I was one of the parents that spoke at the Board of Education meeting on May 4, 2010.   I am writing in regards to Mr. Matthew Kravetsky, one of the amazing teachers at Tamaques School.

At this time you all should have received MANY letters from the MANY Tamaques Parents who believe that Mr, Kravetsky is an asset to our school.  These are educated people – who have trusted their most prized possessions to the Tamaques teachers, and from the letters you have received you will be able to see that they all believe Mr. Kravetsky is doing an amazing job.

Like I had mentioned Tuesday night Mr. Kravetsky will be one of those unforgettable teachers for my son, for me he will be a teacher I compare all others too.

I know you cannot speak about personnel matters; all I am asking is that the Board reviews this matter.   We as residents are periodically asked by the Board and School Administration to help – and of course we do it without a second thought.  We try to rally to get parents to vote YES, we try to raise money for technology (at Tamaques we raised enough money at our Winter Social to purchase new technology for the classrooms – Mr. Kravetsky was one of teachers who came to support our social), anywhere there is an area that needs help, most parents step up to do something.

We are all aware of the budget, we are also aware at Tamaques School that we had a number of retirements and maternity leave.  It is my understanding that this position is not getting cut - there will be a replacement. 

After reading these letters it is clear that Mr. Kravetsky has made an impact on many children.  There are clear examples of how he has helped them educationally, socially, and some emotionally.  Why do we want to take this away from our children?
