Jefferson Fifth Graders Entertain Grandparents & Friends

Annual visitation day features choral concert.

Jefferson School fifth graders got a chance to show off their school Friday, just months before they leave for the halls of Edison.

The annual fifth grader Grandparents and Special Friends Day brought 130 visitors to the school to enjoy a morning of learning and fun. Visitors started the day in the classrooms, where they had the chance to meet teachers and hear presentations. The students and teachers put together a series of lessons combined to what the students were learning, including readings and student designed power points.

"The teachers try to make it interactive so the guests can participate instead of just observing," Jefferson teacher Anne Marie Lawrence said.

Following the classroom visits, the visitors gathered in the school gym for a special concert from the school's fifth grade chorus. Led by retiring music teacher Karen Yula, the fifth graders ran through several songs in a preview of the school's May 17 fifth grade concert.

The visitors enjoyed the day and the chance to see the school and hear the chorus. Many of the visitors took their students to lunch following the day.

"This is fabulous," Theresa Edder-Klaritch said of her visit to Jefferson. "It was nice to share. There were so many grandparents. It is really nice. They do a fabulous job every year."
