Holy Trinity to Host 34th Annual Invitational Track and Field Meet May 19

The longest-running parochial school track meet in New Jersey, the event will feature more than 800 student athletes from 18 area Catholic schools.

Holy Trinity Interparochial School (HTIS)will host its 34th annual Holy Trinity Invitational Track and Field Meet at Gary Kehler Stadium on Sunday, May 19, from noon to 5:30 pm. The longest-running parochial school track meet in New Jersey, the event will feature more than 800 student athletes from 18 area Catholic schools.

The meet will include teams from St. Michael School in Newark, Good Shepherd Academy in Irvington, Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange and Assumption School in Morristown.

Holy Trinity coach Tom Glynn said, “We are proud of the long-standing tradition of track and cross-country at our school and we’re excited about hosting so many terrific athletes and their families from Essex, Morris and Union Counties.

“The Holy Trinity team has run well this season at Union Catholic’s 3rd annual Grammar School Invitational Meet, as well as the meets at Our Lady of Sorrows School and Assumption School.”

The highlight of the meet will be the15th Jerry McCabe Team Relay Cup for both girls’ and boys’ teams. “The McCabe Team relay is named for Jerry McCabe, who was instrumental in developing the track and cross- country programs at Holy Trinity,” said Glynn, who is also the meet’s director.

This year’s meet will also feature the inaugural running of the Fitzpatrick Relay, which is named in honor of the Fitzpatrick family, who have dedicated 17 years to coaching and developing the track program at HTIS.

The public is invited to attend and cheer on all of the dedicated student-athletes.  

Holy Trinity Interparochial School, a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2011, is a pre-K through 8th grade parochial school, operating from two campuses in Mountainside and Westfield, New Jersey. As a Middle States Accredited school, it is run under the auspices of the Newark Archdiocesan School System.
