The 2009 fall athletics season got underway last week when the Board of Education approved the list of coaching assignments for the season and approved the stipends for the coaches.
The school district is slated to spend $231,414 on coaches for the fall season. Thirty coaches will be hired for the eight sports, with football receiving the most coaches at eight and gymnastics receiving the least at one. Combined, the boys and girls soccer teams will also have eight coaches total. James Desarno, the head football coach, will be the only coach collecting a pay check over $10,000, while Christopher Tafelski, a shared head coach of boys cross country has the lowest stipend at slightly under $4500.
