CONGRESSMAN LANCE TO DISCUSS CHRONIC DISEASE LEGISLATION AT NEWS CONFERENCE THURSDAY IN WESTFIELD

In a press release from Angie Lundberg dated January 20, 2012, it was announced:

Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) on Thursday, January 26, 2012 will hold a news conference to discuss the MODDERN Cures Act. During the event, Lance will be joined by advocates and patients representing several chronic and rare diseases, such as ALS, alzheimers, mesothelioma, osteoporosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency and others, to discuss their support for the legislation.  John Crowley, the chairman and chief executive officer of Amicus Therapeutics and nationally recognized rare disease advocate, will also participate. Crowley served as the inspiration for the 2010 motion picture, “Extraordinary Measures.”  The movie, which stars Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser, chronicles Crowley’s decade-long search to find a cure for a rare illness afflicting two of their children. The news conference will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Lance’s Westfield district office located at 425 North Avenue East. Lance's MODDERN Cures Act would update the Nation’s drug and diagnostics evaluation and regulatory network by encouraging the discovery and development of new treatments for the many diseases that have few or no options. It would also create a system that rewards efficiency and effectiveness to the benefit of all people with chronic diseases.    In the House of Representatives, Lance serves as a co-chair of the bipartisan Rare Disease Congressional Caucus.
