Dolan Announces Fourth Snow Day Plans

April 8 to become school day if another snow day is needed.

Temperatures may have reached the 60s on Friday, but the is continuing to think cold, ice and snow.

Schools Superintendent Margaret Dolan has outlined contingency plans for the event the school system will need to use a fourth snow day before the end of the school year. The district's three scheduled snow days have been utilized due to the high amount of snow and ice storms to pummel Westfield in January and February.

Dolan said the contingency plan will involve canceling the last day of spring break, Friday, April 8. The plan could take students and staff off the beach and put them back into the classroom, with any additional snow days past four taking more days off of spring break.

This is part of past Board of Education policy on snow days. State law requires schools to be opened 180 days for a school year to count as legal.

Dolan said her office has sent a memo to school staffers informing them of the possibility of the plan.
