Dr. Maria Montessori, the first woman physician in Italy, developed the child-centered, individualized approach more than a century ago, and the method remains cutting edge today. During the weeklong celebration the children at Christopher Academy will be talking about Dr. Montessori’s life, about the peaceful environment she wanted to create, and the students will be producing their own Montessori Materials.

Parents and professionals alike agree that the Montessori approach offers an environment, which reflects children’s natural development resulting in increased academic achievement to distinctions in their creativity, self-efficacy, and community contribution.  Our classrooms have multi-age groupings, a rich and extensive curriculum implemented with hands-on materials, cross-discipline learning, and care of the global environment are just a few of these innovative characteristics, according to Henriette Petersen, Director of Operations, all in a school setting with a "family atmosphere."
