Board of Education Joins the Parade

Walker leads BOE in first ever Memorial Day march.

The Board of Education decided to ditch their padded chairs and packets to join their Town Council counterparts in a stroll down East Broad Street Monday in the Memorial Day parade.

BOE President Julia Walker announced last month an initiative to have the board join the parade through town. When she made the announcement she said said she wanted the board to salute war veterans and participate with other groups in the community.

Walker was joined by the eight other members in the board's inaugural parade. The board mingled with Mayor Andy Skibitsky and members of the Town Council during the mile and a half march from Lord & Taylor to Fairview Cemetary.

During the parade, BOE members had the chance to see several hundred residents who lined East Broad Street. These included several currently petitioning the board to retain Tamaques School teacher Matt Kravetsky, Westfield Education Association President Kim Schumacher and Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).
