Westfield Blue Devils Set for Spring Season

Baseball

The Blue Devils had a memorable 2011 season that saw them make it to Toms River for the Group 4 title game before falling to Manalapan 29-14. Despite the loss, the season was a success for Westfield who won their sectional crown along with 25 games. Catcher A.J. Murray leaves the team after his senior season and a selection by the Houston Astros in the 77th round of the MLB draft. Seniors Mike Mondon, James O'Rourke, Matt Varakian and Jon Gribbin lead the way for the squad. This year's Westfield group will once again make up an impressive list of Union County squad that also includes Governor Livingston, Cranford, New Providence and several others.

Softball

Westfield's softball team was a nice surprise in 2011. The group made it all the way to the county finals before falling to Governor Livingston and also qualified for the North 2 Group 4 state tournament. 2011's county finals appearance was their first since 1998 and the team looks to build upon the strong performance and establish themself as a regular in Union County softball.

The 2011 Blue Devils finished 9-9 and look to build upon the respectable season. They also look to build upon very tight games with NJ powerhouses Summit and Immaculata as they continue to establish themselves as one of the upper-echelon teams in the county.
