Armed Policeman is Not the Answer, Retired School Teacher Says

Resident supports Board members Mitch Slater and Ann Cary who have requested that the school resource officer decision not be made hastily.

I fully support what Board members, Mitch Slater and Ann Cary, are advocating in their letter.

Let us separate the issues: counseling and security. On one hand, a Student Assistance Counselor is what is needed, that is a trained counselor/mentor familiar with teens' concerns and/or problems. On the other hand, security building issues can be resolved with command posts monitors, apps, and electronic gadgets. An armed policeman is NOT the answer.

Let us face these issues in a reasonable sensible manner and not rush because summer vacation is upon us.

Many Westfield residents agree with me, so do many of the teaching faculty members.
