95% of Westfield’s Class of 2013 Pursues Higher Education

422 students from the Class of 2013 are continuing their education.

Westfield High School’s Class of 2013 had 95 percent of graduates pursue higher education this fall, according to t report released by the WHS Office of Counseling Services.

Of the graduates, 88.3 percent are attending four-year colleges and universities, 5.9 percent are attending two-year colleges and less than one percent are entering, vocational, business or other post-high school institutions, according to the office. The remainder of graduates have chosen to enter the work force, military, take a year off or did not know their future plans at the time the report was compiled.

The class of 2013 graduates are attending 175 colleges and universities in more than 30 states and five students have chosen to study in Canada, while one is attending a university in Scotland.

The University of Delaware, Pennsylvania State University, University of Maryland and Virginia Polytechnic Institute are the most popular out-of-state colleges and universities selected by the class of 2013. In state, the most widely selected university is Rutgers, with 18 WHS graduates attending. For two-year institutions, 21 students have chosen to attend Union County College.
