Work to Start on Harding Street Project

Repaving to continue to next year.

The town will start the preliminary work to repave Harding Street either later this month or the beginning of October with the project being completed in the spring.

Town Engineer Kris McAloon briefed the Town Council on Tuesday evening that the project will start with survey work this month before curbing work begins. The plan is to install new curbs before the new roadway is laid on the site. The survey work is expected to take a week to 10 days. The town has signed a contract with Stilo Construction on this project. Stilo handled the repaving of Willow Grove Road over the summer.

McAloon said weather conditions will not permit the entire project to be completed this year. He said the project will be finished in the spring and will be done in stages to prevent residents from having a torn up street for several months.

Harding Street, on the northside of town, near the Cranford and Garwood border and behind Washington School, is pockmarked in portions of the 900 block. The end of the street, close to the cul de sac is marked with potholes and patch jobs in frequent spots. Local officials have indicated that Harding Street residents have been vocal in wanting the street repaved,

"The people on Harding have been waiting a while," Councilwoman Joann Neylan said.
