Westfield Update for Wednesday, Nov. 7; Library Hours Extended, Town Council Meets at 8 p.m.

Westfielders are collecting donations for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky announced that the Westfield Memorial Library will be open until midnight daily until further notice as a warming center. WiFi has been enabled and charging stations are available. No circulation of books/media during extended hours, but books are available for your leisure.

Westfield Board of Education member Mitch Slater said a decision about wheher or not school will be in session tomorrow will come closer to 8 p.m. tonight. The impending storm and street safety are main concerns. Residents will be alerted via the Honeywell system.

The daughter of a resident of the Westfield Senior Housing Center contacted Patch to say that she was with her mom at the building when power was restored. "It was like New Year's Eve," she said. She added that the generous donations from the Westfield community helped raise the spirits of seniors during the long week.

Donations sought:

Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches  and drop them off at St. Helen's in Westfield to be delivered to the shelter in Elizabeth.

Please consider donating to the Hurricane Sandy Westfield Relief Fund for families severely impacted.

Family Readiness Group community volunteers have decided to organize a community wide collection of goods that can be distributed. They will be collecting through Saturday, November 17. Click here for a list of needed items.
