The daughter of a resident of the Westfield Senior Housing Center contacted Patch to say that she was with her mom at the building when power was restored. "It was like New Year's Eve," she said. She added that the generous donations from the Westfield community helped raise the spirits of seniors during the long week.

Donations sought:

Make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches  and drop them off at St. Helen's in Westfield to be delivered to the shelter in Elizabeth.

Please consider donating to the Hurricane Sandy Westfield Relief Fund for families severely impacted.

Family Readiness Group community volunteers have decided to organize a community wide collection of goods that can be distributed. They will be collecting through Saturday, November 17. Click here for a list of needed items.

I understand that westfield is supposed to get federal money to pay for a one time cleanup of debris from the storm. Yet newsletter states that any trees cut down need to be removed by private service or homeowners. Town will not pick your downed trees up if you place in street. Are you kidding me? Scotch plains is doing a one time pickup. How am I supposed to cart five huge evergreens to the conservation center. So what is westfield doing with that money? After all we pay for private garbage pickup. We pay for town clean up. Do you realize the cost to remove these trees is calculated by weight? If anyone has a clue as to who is responsible for this ludicrous decision I would like to know. On the middle of a huge disaster our town sticks it to the residents again.

Pretty standard Westfield. They'd charge for oxygen if they could find a way. Call the Mayor and ask. Post back what you find out.

If this town is so rotten, why do you bother to stay? Sell your house and move to greener pastures.
