Westfield Conservation Center Schedule for 2013

This month the center will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

The Conservation Center will be open during the winter on the following SaturdaysJanuary 5, 12, 19 and March 9 & 23 from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., weather permitting.  For further information call 908-789-4100 ext. 4600 or log on to the Town Web Site:  www.westfieldnj.gov.  In addition, the schedule will be broadcast on TV-36

DECALS REQUIRED:

Decals will be sold starting April 4th.  Decal Fee $70.00 for the season for resident cars. The Decal Fee must be paid at the Conservation Center by check or money order only made payable to Town of Westfield.

ELIGIBILITY - WESTFIELD RESIDENTS ONLY - LANDSCAPERS NOT PERMITTED!

Residents must show proof of residence prior to the issuance of decal, i.e. Vehicle Registration.

Residents must bring the car which is to receive the decal. No decal will be given to the driver. The decal will be placed on the vehicle at the time of purchase by DPW personnel.

Residents who reside in the Town of Westfield but do not have New Jersey license plates must obtain an affidavit from the Department of Public Works prior to getting their decal at the Conservation Center.  Residents who own property in the Town of Westfield but do not reside in the Town of Westfield must also obtain an affidavit prior to getting their decal at the Conservation Center.  This affidavit can be obtained from the Department of Public Works Building, 959 North Avenue West during business hours.

Decal Replacement Policy - Replacement of lost or stolen decals, or decals for new cars with the same license plate, can be arranged at the Westfield Conservation Center upon presentation of the following:

  1. Receipt of purchase of original decal
  2. Vehicle registration
  3. Vehicle on which the decal is to be affixed

Decals for new cars with different license plates will be replaced upon presentation of the above documents, as well as a receipt from the Department of Motor Vehicles verifying that the old plates have been turned in.

SITE RULES:

GRASS & BRUSH MUST BE SEPARATED  BY THE RESIDENT

Materials must be placed in designated places adjacent to paved area, not on it . Children not helping to unload must stay in the car.  Containers, plastic bags, etc. must be removed from the site. Dumping material outside fenced areas, or over the fence is strictly prohibited and all laws pertaining to this matter will be enforced.

Materials must be delivered by non-commercial vehicles only.  In most cases Westfield residents bring material to the site themselves. If a resident must arrange for someone else to deliver, the resident must acquire a special permit available at the Public Works Center.  This permit is only good for one day, and will be turned into the attendant at the last trip into the Center. The cost for the one day permit is $20.00. 

THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT PERMITTED:  PICK-UP TRUCKS WITH DUMP BODIES, HIGH SIDE BOARDS AND INSERTABLE DUMP BODIES, AND ANY VEHICLES WITH COMMERCIAL PLATES.

THE FOLOWING ARE PERMITTED: NON-COMMERCIAL CARS, VANS, AND PICK-UP TRUCKS, AND UTILITY TRAILERS WITH A MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF THREE CUBIC YARDS.

MATERIALS ACCEPTED MATERIAL NOT ACCEPTED
  • Leaves
  • Grass and organic garden refuse
  • Twigs, brush, shrubs
  • Logs (not to exceed 2 feet in length)
  • Christmas Trees (remove decorations, lights, wiring)
  • Materials not of a biodegradable nature
  • Tree trunks - greater than 6" in diameter
  • Tree Stumps
  • Stone, Sand, and Concrete
  • Construction Debris, Fencing,Treated Wood

LEAVES:
The annual Leaf Brochures will be mailed in the Fall to all residents. If you do not receive  brochure please call, 908-789-4100 ext. 4600. During Leaf Collection Season (October 14th   
to December 13th , weather permitting) the Conservation Center will be open 7 days a week, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

RECYCLING & ELECTRONIC WASTE:
The Westfield Conservation Center has recycling containers for commingled, paper, cardboard, electronic waste & scrap metal.  All residents and business owners in the Town of Westfield are welcome to drop off their recycling at the Conservation Center during its hours of operation.  No permit is required. CHRISTMAS TREES:
Christmas trees are to be deposited at the Conservation Center only. All decorations, lights and wiring must be taken off trees prior to dropping them off at the Conservation Center.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
Residents are not allowed to pile debris from their property such as branches, brush, leaves, etc. in the streets. Westfield residents can take such debris to the Conservation Center.  Westfield Town Code Sections 33-21, 24-1 and 33-5 prohibit the deposit of any litter, garbage, refuse or rubbish (including branches, brush and leaves) on streets, sidewalks, or public places. Failure to comply with the Town Code may result in the issuance of  violations and/or fines at the discretion of the Town Engineer. Residents may also take fallen branches and other vegetative debris caused by storms to the Conservation Center. Fallen branches and debris from Town trees, and damage to Town property should be immediately reported to the Department of Public Works.

ILLEGAL DUMPING:
Dumping any type of material outside fenced areas or over the fence incurs unnecessary costs to the taxpayer and is strictly prohibited. Anyone observing illegal dumping when the center is closed should immediately report it to the Westfield Police Department (789-4000). Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted by law. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
