Westfield Instant Alert Plus Active

Residents can sign up for emergency notification system.

Mayor Andy Skibitsky announced Tuesday evening that the Westfield Instant Alert Plus system is active on the town's Web site.

The emergency notification system will allow residents and community groups to enroll online to receive emergency notices from public safety officials as needed. The registration process will allow town leaders to blast out messages to e-mail addresses, home phones, cell phones and fax machines in order to ease the notification process. Residents enrolled in the program will receive regular updates as the emergency progresses.

The town's Web site says the alert system will be used for various emergencies including train derailments, blizzards, flash floods, terrorist attacks and other natural disasters. The system will also be set up to blast out Amber Alerts in the case of missing children.
