Veterans Day Ceremony Begins at Noon, Sunday, Nov. 11

The public is invited to attend.

The Martin Wallberg Post # 3 of the American Legion will host ceremonies honoring all our veterans, living and deceased.

Veterans are encouraged to meet at the Lord & Taylor parking lot in front of the Y on Ferris Place at 11:45 AM. We will step off at 11:55 AM with a Westfield Police escort and march to the WWI Memorial. T

The public is cordially welcome to attend the ceremonies which will start at 12 Noon at the World War I Memorial on the island in the intersection of North Ave. and E. Broad St. Post #3 Chaplain Bob D’Areca will recite the opening prayer followed by the Town Bell Master Jack Panosh ringing the United Methodist Church bell 11 times in remembrance of the the End of WWI on Nov. 11, 1918 and all our Servicemen & women killed or wounded defending our country and our freedoms. Peter Hogaboom the Master of Ceremonies will have a few word about Post #3’s Support Our Troops “WE Care” shipments to our service men & women in Afghanistan fighting to preserve our Freedom, Liberties and Independence. Jim Kane the Post Commander will have some remarks. Retired Col. Dennis Dougherty has a few remarks for us. Mayor Andy Skitbitsky will follow with his comments. Kerry Stubbs will sing “God Bless America.” Memorial Wreaths will be placed by The American Legion, Sons of the American Legion and The Auxiliary of the American Legion. Retired Col. Dennis Dougherty will place a wreath for the 117th Cavalry Association and the 1-102nd Cavalry unit from the Westfield Armory. Dr. Ted Schlosberg will play “Taps.”

Jack Panash will then ring the bell 4 times for the 4 Americans killed on Sept 11, 2012 during a Terrorist Attack in Bengahzi Libya.

In case of rain the ceremonies will be held at Post #3 which is located at 1003 North Ave., Westfield across from the Westfield Community Players Playhouse.

Everyone is invited back to Post #3 for refreshments and camaraderie immediately after the ceremonies.
