Town Studies Changes to Kehler Parking and Traffic Flow

Town aims to reduce congestion in stadium neighborhood.

The town is looking to make some changes to the traffic flow in the area of Kehler Stadium.

Councilman Mark Ciarrocca, chairman of the Council's public safety committee, said his committee is exploring ways to reduce congestion along Rahway Avenue in front of the stadium. This could include changing pick up and drop off locations for players and reducing parking along Rahway in front of the stadium.

"When sports get out you see the football players waiting for their parents on the street," Ciarrocca said of the common site on Rahway Avenue.

Some of the ideas being studied by the public safety committee include upgrading the signage regarding parking on the street near the stadium, which has been deemed poor by the committee. The committee is looking at the possibility of intalling a drop off and pick up area on the street but not in front of Kehler, possibly closer to Washington Street. This would also involve asking buses dropping off athletes to park closer to Washington.

Ciarrocca said the committee is in consensus that the crosswalk needs to be upgraded in the area of the stadium and the lighting on the crosswalk needs to be replaced. In addition there is a chance the crosswalk could be relocated.
