Town Receives Grant for Archive Project

$40,000 from state to assist with on-going program.

The town has received a $40,000 grant from the state to assist with an on-going project to place archived town records on computer discs.

Town Administrator Jim Gildea made the announcement at Tuesday night's Town Council meeting that the PARIS grant will assist the continuation of the project. The town has been in the process of digitizing the town's archives for the past several years.

"This is for records archiving and this will help us go to the next level," Gildea said.

The town has been in the process of converting various records, including historic meeting minutes and land use documents, to a digital format. This will assist with the storage of such information, along with making it easier for town staff and residents to obtain information in the future.

Gildea specifically recognized Town Clerk Claire Gray and Town Surveyor Paul Ward for their work on the project. He noted the grant is a boon to the town in the current budget crunch.
