Education commissioner fired over Race to the Top paperwork mix-up

Gov. Chris Christie fired Westfield native Bret Schundler as the state's commissioner of education on Friday, after Schundler refused to resign. Published reports say that Christie demanded Schundler's resignation after contridictions regarding the paperwork mix-up in the state's Race to the Top application. Schundler, a Westfield High School alum and former Jersey City mayor was appointed as the state's education chief in January.
