Proposed Walnut Street Home Revised to Comply With Ordinance

The proposed two-unit townhouse will now appear as a single-family dwelling from the front.

Last month, the Westfield Town Council voted to demolish a single-family home at 257 Walnut St., a decision that angered neighborhood residents as well as Patch readers who believe the structure should have been preserved for its historical value.

The home had not been razed as of Tuesday's meeting when the council voted to approve the demolition of the home's detached garage.

At Tuesday's conference meeting, Town Administrator Jim Gildea presented a rendering of the proposed home - a two-unit townhouse - which has been changed from what was originally proposed to comply with a revised land use ordinance that requires homes in that zone to appear as single-family structures from the front.

Other single-family homes approved for demolition at Tuesday's meeting include:

  • 309 Belmar Place
  • 1355 Grandview Ave.
  • 1258 Summit Ave.
  • 132 Ayliffe Ave.
  • 226 Grove St.
  • 218 Grove St.
