NJ.Com: Governor Formally Proposes Property Tax Cap

Proposal part of new budget tool kit.

Gov. Chris Christie formally proposed a state constitutional amendment calling for a 2.5-percent cap on local property tax increases. The proposal, which the governor first made mention of in his March budget address to the Legislature, is part of a package of bills he is proposing to tackle the state's property tax rate. To become part of the constitution, the amendment will have to pass with super majorities in both houses of the state legislature and pass a statewide referendum in November.
