Leaf Collection Update

Second pass planned for this week, town generates highest volume in county.

The Department of Public Works will be making a second pass townwide to pick up leaves by the end of this week.

Town Engineer Kris McAloon said residents should continue to put the leaves curbside and his department will be going through to pick up the leaves and continue the processing through the county.

He said Westfield, which has been known in county leaf collection circles as a high leaf generating town, has generated the highest volume of leaves countywide to date. This figure was generated by county leaf collection officials who have been processing leaves for the 21 towns in the county.

McAloon said the heavy rains from this year have contributed to the higher than normal amount of leaves that have fallen. While the leaf anounts are high, he said the collection has been going well.

"It's going well, there are a ton leaves down though," McAloon said.
