Lance to Appear With Deli Owners, Host Union County Town Hall Meetings This Week

Congressman to speak at small business press conference with deli owners.

U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Hunterdon County) has scheduled three public events during the course of the week in Union County, including a press conference with the owners of a downtown Westfield deli.

Lance, who represents most of western Union County, will be hosting a town hall meeting Wednesday at Noon at Summit City Hall. The meeting will include a presentation by the congressman on federal issues, along with a question and answer period. The meeting was rescheduled from Tuesday after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.) announced a special House session to vote on teacher salary legislation.

Lance will also be appearing at 6:30 on Wednesday evening at the Casano Center on Chestnut Street in Roselle Park for a town hall meeting.

The town hall meetings are a large part of Lance's August calendar when Congress adjourns for an annual "district work period." During an interview with Patch last week, Lance said he is focusing on the town hall meetings as a way to hear back from voters on issues ranging from the economy to education. Lance, who is facing a challenge from Democrat Ed Postosnak of Bridgewater in November, said he is focusing on government duties over campaign related functions during the month.

Lance will be appearing in Westfield on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. to hold a press conference on small business issues with the owners of Robert Treat Deli on Quimby Street. According to a media advisory from Lance's congressional office, the group will discuss the economic climate in New Jersey, along with small business legislation.

The press conference comes after Potosnak attacked Lance on small business issues, objecting to the congressman's decision to vote against a federal jobs bill in July that included proposals for small business programs. Lance said to Patch he is focused on other small business proposals.
