It's Labor Day, What's Open, What's Closed

Just a quick guide to planning your Labor Day in Westfield.

It's Labor Day 2011 and besides being the last day of the summer, it's also a holiday. While many of you are off enjoying one last long weekend in the sun, there are many people here town enjoying a relaxing day.

Here is a quick rundown of what is open and closed today.

  • All Westfield town offices, along with Union County government and New Jersey state offices are closed today. You will have to wait a day to renew a driver's license or say hello to anyone in the .
  • The and the are open all day today and will respond if you call. Remember in case of an emergency to dial 911 immediately.
  • Banks are also closed today. But in good news, ATMs are open.
  • Come rain or sleet or dark of night will bring you a mail carrier, but on Labor Day, mail service is suspended. The Post Office downtown is also closed today.
  • All of the schools and the main headquarters on Elm Street are closed today. They will reopen tomorrow when teachers report.
  • If you want to cool off today, you're in luck. The is open all day today. It is the last day the pool is open for the summer season.
  • If you want to go shopping today, you're also in luck. Many stores downtown are open today, along with restaurants. Check with individual stores on hours. Remember to shop local.
