High School Students to Campaign Today

WHS Democratic and Republican Clubs will be out in force for Brennan and Skibitsky.

A group of politically minded Westfield High School students are spending the day knocking on doors and making their presence felt as voting occurs throughout Westfield.

Members of the WHS Democratic and Republican Clubs gathered early this morning to get their marching orders and get ready to help campaign. The groups traditionally campaign on election day, doing various get out the vote activities for the two parties.

After a meeting this morning at the home of Councilman Dave Haas, the Democratic students planned to knock on doors at homes across town, getting out the word for Democratic mayoral nominee Bill Brennan and his running mates. The group is led by Haas' daughter, Claire Stevens-Haas.

The Republican Club met up this morning for breakfast at Vicki's Diner before heading out to campaign townwide. Many of their activities will be similar to the Democratic Club as they assist Republican Mayor Andy Skibitsky and his running mates. The group may do a visibility stop at the intersection of North Avenue and East Broad Street this afternoon. In the world of get out the vote, visibility translates to a large group of volunteers waving signs and otherwise being visible at a major intersection.

The Republican club is lead by Chris Salemme. Skibitsky's son, Troy, and Brennan's daughter, Kate, will be out campaigning today with the student groups.
