DPW Issues on Azalea Court Residents' Minds

Residents asked for potholes to be fixed.

Two members of the Town Council heard an earful from Azalea Court residents Saturday about public works issues.

Residents informed Councilmen Mark LoGrippo and Keith Loughlin about delays in street cleaning and dead town owned trees on the circle, along with a pothole which keeps coming back to the street. LoGrippo and Loughlin were walking to the street as part of LoGrippo's campaign to retain the third ward seat he was appointed to earlier this month.

Residents pointed to a pothole along the edge of the street near the intersection of Evergreen as one of their concerns. They said the street was patched a month ago and the pothole reappeared shortly thereafter.

"The end of the street they patch it and it comes back," one resident said.

Dead town owned trees marking the border of the street and the senior citizen housing complex also came up from residents. Residents said the trees were installed by the town when the complex was built in the 1990s and have been slowly dying in recent years.

Loughlin said the DPW has a tree installation budget that could provide new trees.

Residents also touched on street claening and snow removal issues.

"We are the neglected side of town," a resident said. "This is the last block to be cleaned in the snow."

Loughlin stressed he was a member of the Council's public works committee and that he would take a look into the issue. He said it was possible for additional patches to be done to the street, but noted that the Council has finalized the town's two-year capital plan and the next review of the plan will be in 2013. Inclusion on the two-year capital plan can lead to the complete overhaul of the 26-year old street.

The pothole runs along the curb of the road. The street also shows weeds growing in the middle of the roadway, which residents commented on.

LoGrippo is running against Democrat Matt Sontz and independent Greg Kasko for the third ward seat in November.
