Crosswalk Planned for Windsor and Ripley

New crosswalk will benefit residents of Cacciola.

A crosswalk will be installed on Windsor Avenue at the intersection with Ripley Place, the Town Council announced Tuesday night.

The crosswalk is planned to allow pedestrians a safer crossing to and from Windsor Park. The one acre park with a playground and basketball courts is a popular destination for children in the Cacciola neighborhood.

The long sought after crosswalk was delayed while traffic studies were conducted on the street to determine the best location. Some residents had sought one in the middle of Windsor in front of the park. This would have caused issues for two homes directly across the street from the park, since cars cannot park on a crosswalk. A crosswalk there would have caused the homes to lose parking spaces. The nearby intersection was determined to be the best location.

"Crosswalks at corners are preferable," Councilman Mark Ciarrocca said.

An outside contractor is in the process of installing new thermoplastic crosswalks at existing crosswalks and putting new ones into place. It is likely that the new crosswalk on Windsor will be installed later this month. Ciarrocca did not announce an exact time frame during his remarks.
