Council Delays Jan. 19 Meeting a Day for Christie

Meeting changed to allow for local officials to attend new governor's inauguration.

The inauguration of Gov.-Elect Chris Christie on Jan. 19 has caused the Town Council meeting scheduled for that evening to be postponed on day.

Town Clerk Claire Gray said the date was changed after several members of the Council expressed interest in attending the inauguration in Trenton that day. Attending the Noon event and other events in the capital surrounding the swearing-in of the new governor will not allow them to get back to town in time for the meeting at 8 p.m. The Council voted unanimously to the date change at the Jan. 5 reorganization meeting.

The attendance of Westfield officials at the swearing of Christie and Lt. Gov.-Elect Kim Guadagno will be a swap from the reorganization meeting. At that meeting, which featured Mayor Andy Skibitsky taking the oath of office for a second term, the mayor was sworn in by the lieutenant governor-elect.
