Council Approves 12 Finance Resolutions, Spending Almost $300K

A look at Town Council financial business.

During last Wednesday's Town Council meeting, the Council voted to approve the spending of almost $300,000, along with approving 12 resolutions relating to spending and town finances.

The routine finance actions including paying the town's bills and claims since the last meeting of the Council. The routine payment totaled $291,481.96 for the two week period.

The Town Council voted to hire an attorney to defend the town in a builder remedy suit brought by Needle Point Homes under the state's affordable housing laws.

The finance related resolutions included two to ask the town treasurer to repay overpaid taxes from 2009 to residents. The treasurer will also be paying the state health department for December 2009 dog licenses issued by the town and paying 2010 union salaries at the library.

The Town Council voted to approve refund recreation fees along with adopting a deferred compensation plan for the town. Refunds of cash bonds for the installation of landscaping at 808 Lawrence Avenue and a road opening permit at 156 Effingham Place were among the routine financial transactions. A routine budget transfer was also approved.

The Council refund an unused parking permit fee and approved payment of taxes to the Downtown Westfield Corporation for the town's special improvement district. The town tax collector receives the SID tax from downtown property and business owners and then the treasurer pays the funds to the DWC.
