A Message From Councilman Mark LoGrippo

LoGrippo suggest employing "block captains" for each street/ neighborhood.

Dear Neighbor,

It has been a long 2 weeks since Hurricane Sandy and for many, things are getting back to normal.

Overall, Westfield was very fortunate compared to other parts of the New Jersey and New York region. Over the past weekend, the Star Ledger recognized Westfield for performing very well regarding lines of communication with regards to storm updates, power outages, resource availability and service updates.

I want to acknowledge the hard work of Mayor Skitbitsky, Town Administrator Jim Gildea and his staff, the Westfield Police and Fire Departments as well as the members of our Town Council who all left their families and tended to the needs of the Westfield community.

Walking our Ward, updates via email, and facebook were very effective in getting the word out in these extreme conditions. Please feel free to provide me your feedback. One initiative that I think might help our Ward is to have a block captain for each street/neighborhood. In the event of a power outage or a severe storm, the block captain can help to check on neighbors and assist with communication such as handing out flyers.

Attached is a map of the 3rd Ward. I support every effort that can help provide safety and support to our residents and fellow neighbors. Again, thank you to all of you who volunteered to hand out flyers to advise residents about the town conference call.

I appreciate your feedback and if you would like to help in this endeavor, please let me know via email at  mlogrippo@westfieldnj.gov

Also, I would like to remind everyone to sign up for Twitter as another way to obtain information and stay connected. https://twitter.com/TownOfWestfield.

For those of you on facebook, I also post updates on my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/LoGrippo2011

Thank you again and I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,

Mark LoGrippo

3rd Ward Councilman
