WPD Concludes Investigation in Alleged Attempted Luring; No Arrest Made

Parents of an 8-year-old boy reported that an alleged attempted luring incident took place at noon on Monday, June 25.

Westfield Police Capt. Cliff Auchter said Wednesday afternoon that the has concluded its investigation regarding an incident that was reported Monday afternoon. No arrest was made. 

"We have completed our investigation and there is no cause for us to proceed any further," Auchter said. 

Tuesday morning Auchter confirmed that the WPD was talking with a person of interest after an 8-year-old male resident of the 600 block of Kimball Avenue, who was outside his home, ran indoors and told his parents of an alleged attempted luring.

Auchter said to protect the individuals involved no additional details would be released. 

"An incident is under investigation and preliminary investigation does not indicate that this incident poses any danger to the public," Westfield Police Chief David Wayman said via email Monday evening.

In September 2010, a white male wearing a bandana that covered his nose and mouth attempted to lure three  students into his car at the intersection of Kimball and Harrison Avenues. Eric Degner, of Plainfield, on a drug possession charge, was investigated by police in connection with the luring but was not arrested.
