Westfield Man Arrested in Connection With Radley Road Burglary

The following information was obtained from the Westfield Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Edwin Simmons, 22, of Westfield, was arrested shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 7 for allegedly committing burglary and theft at a residence on the 600 block of Radley Road in Westfield.

Westfield Police Chief David Wayman said bail was set at $5,000 and Simmons was later remanded to Union County jail when he was unable to post bail.

Simmons was allegedly fleeing the scene in a van when was apprehended by police a short distance from the residence.

Police recovered approximately $7,000 in stolen property, including jewelry, cameras and computers.

Wayman said no one was at home at the time of the burglary and the victim has stated that the residence was locked.

Police were alerted by a neighbor who called in to report suspicious activity in the area.

"The neighbor played a vital role in identifying the suspect and advising police of the crime," said Wayman. "It's vital that the community and the police work together to apprehend offenders. This is a perfect example of a neighbor watching out for their neighbors that led to the arrest of the suspect."

Wayman could not say if the suspect could be tied to any other home invasions in the area at this time.

On April 28, Clark police arrested Simmons in the vicinity of 76 Central Avenue for possession of CDS (controlled dangerous substances) with intent to distribute. Bail was set at $10,000 and Simmons was subsequently released after posting bail.

Thank God it wasn't Murray. He has his hands full, no pun intended, with stealing from the parking machines. For some reason, his coffee just doesn't taste the same anymore.

Another druggy selling and stealing. He better watch out the next time that he doesn't enter the wrong home when the owner is around and prepared to defend him/herself! Could be his last entry on the rap sheet.
