Update: Accident Victim in Stable Condition, Investigation of Drunk Driving Allegation Continues

Marotta treated at University Hospital after being hit by car on North Avenue yesterday.

Gina Marotta, the 25-year old Clark resident hit by a car yesterday on North Avenue, is in stable condition at University Hospital in Newark, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Marotta underwent surgery at the trauma center yesterday for a broken arm, broken leg and head injuries. The spokeswoman declined to go into detail about her condition.

Marotta was hit by a car yesterday around noon while crossing North Avenue from the Lord & Taylor employee parking lot to her job in the department store. The driver of the car, Leslie Boughner, 55, of Westfield was given a summons for DWI by the police. An investigation is on-going and police took a blood sample from Boughner.

Police Captain Clifford Autcher said the police department is waiting for lab work to come back on the blood sample along with completing a report on the case. Police investigators are also in the process of putting together a series of diagrams on the accident.

John Holl, a spokesman for the Union County prosecutor, said his office has not received any contact from the Westfield police about the case. He said the prosecutor's office is normally contacted in hit and run cases or fatal pedestrian accidents, neither of which is the case in Westfield. He said it's possible this case could be handled in Municipal Court depending on the circumstances determined in the investigation.
